We decided to put this in our second home. Dimensions: Length 18.5 inches, Width 14.5 inches, Height 24 inches, Weight 13 pounds. Middle shelf is 13.75 x 5.5 inches; bottom shelf is 16 x 7.25 inches. This distinctive piece could work well in a living room, den, office, or bedroom. I don’t know about you, but the profile of this piece vaguely reminds me of the written characters used in some Asian languages. Was asking $150.
I found a set of four nasty looking stools in an alley near my house in the Glover Park neighborhood of D.C. Actually, it was two sets of two slightly different stools, two that had been painted an off-white and two that had been stained and varnished. Clearly, they’d been living outside for a long time. One had a broken leg that I decided not to try and mend, so I had three to upcycle, two alike and one slightly different. For this project I used the one structurally sound stool that had been stained and varnished. First, I got rid of the top. Then I prepared the stool by sanding the rough surfaces, applying a coat of primer spray paint, lightly sanding again, and finally applying two coats of black satin spray paint. For the top, I used a reclaimed TV tray that I found in a nearby alley. I stripped and sanded away the original finish and applied a few new coats of Minwax water-based clear satin Polycrylic. For the middle and bottom shelves, I used a couple planks of oak newly purchased from Home Depot. I cut them to the desired sizes, sanded the surfaces and edges, and applied a few new coats of Minwax water-based clear satin Polycrylic. I attached all the shelves to the stools with screws.
