Reclaimed Wood Flag of New Orleans

Dimensions: Width 24 inches, Height 15 inches, Thickness 1.5 inches, Weight 8 pounds. Like the city it represents, this flag is a little rough and warn around the edges but has a heart of solid brass. A great gift for fans or natives of New Orleans alike. Two D-rings are mounted on back, so all you need to hang it up is a hammer, two nails, and a wall. $100. Click here to purchase.

The Story

I made this flag out of reclaimed wood—what appeared to be part of a packing crate, found in an alley near my house in the Glover Park neighborhood of D.C. I retained the original rough texture, including some bent over nails, just painting over it with some red, white and blue paint I already had. Assembled with glue and nails, attached to a backing of 1/8 inch thick underlayment. The solid-brass fleurs-de-lis, originally drapery tie backs, were purchased online (at just over $50).
