The Story

This was a simple refinishing project. I found this very solid step stool (which might have been an Ikea product) in an alley in my Glover Park neighborhood of D.C. The natural wood was a little dirty, but it certainly didn’t deserve to go to a landfill. I cleaned and sanded away the scuffs and smudges. White risers and stained wooden steps are a common, traditional design for indoor staircases, so I thought that would be a nice look on this piece. I applied three coats of Minwax water-based clear satin Polycrylic over the stain to protect the finish and give it just a little shine. Would you like to step up (or sit down) and buy it?
