Dimensions: Depth (front to back) 15.25 inches, Width (side to side) 16 inches, Height 20 inches, Weight 9 pounds. This sturdy, small, functional piece can be really useful around your home—whether helping you to reach high cupboards or shelves or serving as temporary seating. It could easily tuck away in a closet or pantry, but certainly looks nice enough to remain out in the open. $75.
This was a simple refinishing project. I found this very solid step stool (which might have been an Ikea product) in an alley in my Glover Park neighborhood of D.C. The natural wood was a little dirty, but it certainly didn’t deserve to go to a landfill. I cleaned and sanded away the scuffs and smudges. White risers and stained wooden steps are a common, traditional design for indoor staircases, so I thought that would be a nice look on this piece. I applied three coats of Minwax water-based clear satin Polycrylic over the stain to protect the finish and give it just a little shine. Would you like to step up (or sit down) and buy it?
